About this collection
Men's merino wool thermal sets
A merino base layer set gives you a matching long sleeve top and long johns in the same weight and colour, so your core and legs stay equally warm. Made from superfine Australian merino wool, our men's thermals regulate temperature, wick sweat and resist odour, making them the most versatile first layer for skiing, snowboarding, hillwalking, fishing and working outdoors.
Which weight of thermal set?
- 165gsm lightweight – active days, spring skiing and layering
- 200gsm light-midweight – cool UK weather and everyday wear
- 250gsm midweight – the classic choice for ski holidays and winter walking
- 320gsm heavyweight – deep cold and low activity
Prefer to vent on the move? Try a zip-up set. Want different weights or sizes for the top and bottoms? Build your own set.

FAQ
Men's Merino Thermal Sets FAQ
What merino thermal set is best for skiing?
For most skiers in the Alps or Scotland, a 250gsm midweight set is the right choice. Go for 320gsm if you feel the cold or ski in very low temperatures, and 165–200gsm for spring skiing or ski touring.
Is a set cheaper than buying a top and long johns separately?
Yes, the set price is lower than the two pieces bought individually. To mix weights, colours or sizes, use our build your own set page.
Can I wear merino thermals for several days?
Yes. Merino resists odour-causing bacteria, so a set can be worn for several days on a ski trip or camping holiday. Air it out overnight and wash it at 30°C when you get home.
How should a men's thermal set fit?
Close to the skin without restricting movement, so it can move sweat away. Our sets are true to size; check chest, waist and inside leg in the size guide.
